As the Platinum Jubilee events are coming to an end, Queen Elizabeth II, 96, made an appearance with her heirs on Sunday. The queen initially did not show appear for the Epsom Derby on Saturday, and later that night nor did she appear at the palace for the Platinum Party.
She was seen on Thursday over the palace balcony overlooking a mesh of red, blue, and white colors of the U.K. flag. Mobility issues are cited as the main reason why the queen wasn’t able to participate in all of the events.
On Friday she missed service for thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Buckingham Palace at the time released a statement regarding that matter: “The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort.”
Later, at the reception at Guildhall hosted by the former Lord mayor, the Cambridge Duchess, Kate Middleton spoke to one of the participants saying that the queen was “fine” post the Trooping the Colour event. According to PA, Kate said, “Yes, she was fine, it was just very tiring yesterday.” Remarking further, “had had a lovely, lovely time.” On Sunday a military parade was held with 2,750 U.K. Armed Forces soldiers, across the commonwealth military personnel who served as a highlight in said event.
The “River of Hope” procession was met with students all over the U.K. carrying 200 flags of silk with art that presents youth hopes and dreams for Earth in the next 70 years in the future.
The Queen became a Monarch on February 6, 1952, when she was only 25 years old after her father King George VI passed.
In 1809 the first-ever royal pageant was held in order to honor the memory of George II in celebration of the 50 years of his reign. Featuring the grand fete as well as a firework display at Frogmore Cottage.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrates the reign of the 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II it’s a four-day bank holiday the event serves as the historical focal point of reflection and impact on the U.K. since her reign in 1952. It is also a celebration where medals are awarded to public service workers including members of the Armed Forces, emergency services, and prison services. The tradition dates back to Queen Victoria’s 50th anniversary when a medal was designed to award her time on the throne at the time.
